CURATED PROJECTS

2013

easy does it, David Dale Gallery, Glasgow/Aid & Abet, Cambridge/Supercollider, Blackpool

An evolving trilogy of exhibitions examining the complexity inherent within the simplest of actions.

2012

CAVE, Liverpool - September 13th - 16th

CAVE was an artist-led art fair for the city of Liverpool coinciding with the opening of the Liverpool Biennial 2012. Presenting 45 of the UK's most exciting unrepresented artists whilst taking no commission or exhibition fee from those participating; CAVE was a new model of art fair.

2011

Space Exchange, Aid & Abet, Cambridge

As part of Space Exchange at Aid & Abet, The Royal Standard presents an assortment of objects acquired by the organisation over the previous 5 years.

Since 2006 The Royal Standard has worked with hundreds of artists, curators and organisations through a diverse programme of exhibitions and events, performances, publications, artist residencies and offsite projects, alongside providing studio space to a wide range of artists and designers: a process which over time inevitably results in the accumulation of a multiplicity of stuff. By re-examining and exhibiting this collection of abandoned artworks, loose ends and remnants of things that have happened at The Royal Standard, an order is provided to our accrued mass of detritus. Questioning perceived notions of ownership and authorisation, acquisition and presentation, whilst quashing hierarchies between what may and may not seem important, the eventual 'display' seen during Space Exchange forming the basis of what will develop into The Royal Standard's Permanent Collection.

DEADPAN, The Royal Standard, Liverpool

With a good glug of irony and a sarcastic nod, DEADPAN gave a kick up the arse to an utter mess of an art world at a point of oversaturisation by questioning strategies used by artists to make new work. Considering mimicry and the referential alongside the blatency of homage, DEADPAN presented with barefaced cheek a 'pastichised' viewpoint of art with lampooning consequences; providing a glimpse into the dirty world of satire within contemporary art today.

tiny touring round the world exhibition, various locations and The Bluecoat, Liverpool

By pushing accepted nptions of collection, acquisition, production and display, the tiny touring round the world exhibition aimed to realise new modes of engagement, simultaneously on a global and minute scale. Working as an artist and curator within my current locality within the world at any given time, whilst forging international links between Liverpool and abroard.

Some People Deserve Everything They Get, The Royal Standard, Liverpool

Some People Deserve Everything They Get assembled the most remarkable, outstanding, significant and superlative artists graduating from courses the length and breadth of the country in 2009.  These graduates outshone their peers with unrivaled aesthetic choices; climbing the supreme ladder of success to pass with flying colours...

SALE, The Royal Standard, Liverpool

SALE transformed the white walled galleries at The Royal Standard into an an 'Art Superstore' stocked with hundreds of artworks by over 80 artists from across the UK and beyond.  With constant special offers and fluctuating prices, SALE helped to tempt the gallery visitor into buying that 'must have' artwork. Utilising retail systems and language more commonly found in the supermarket and in turn questioning the nature of the commercial art world and how it functions.

2008

For The Likes of Us, Liverpool Biennial - Cities on the Edge Programme, Garston, Liverpool

Curating a series of interventions occurring directly on the streets of Garston during Liverpool Biennial 2008 as part of the Cities on the Edge programme, resulting from an exchange between artists and communities of Garston, Liverpool and Gdansk, Poland

NAVIGATOR, The Royal Standard, Liverpool

The inaugural exhibition in the Royal Standard's new home drew on the organisation's relocation to the periphery of the city centre. Set against Liverpool's rapidly changing urban and cultural landscape, NAVIGATOR reflected on a process of re-mapping and re-routing through familiar and unfamiliar territories.
