By stripping an old Welsh map of its towns and villages, rivers and mountain ranges, tourist attractions and all significant language, it has been rendered useless for any tourist wishing to buy and use it for its original intention. The resulting ‘map’ however is still recognisable as a visual representation of Wales, something which will always remain, whether the information contained within it is altered or not. Now without function it has become nothing more than a document that plays with the ambivalence of how we perceive such things.
The work was specially made for the Real Writers Residency Programme at g39, Cardiff - March 2007
